A dispatch by Wikileaks over a reputed very “hard line” by the IMF vis-à-vis the Greek program led to a flurry of high-profile phone contacts over the weekend, with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras speaking, separately, with Angela Merkel, Martin Schulz, Mario Draghi, Antonio Costa and Gianni Pittella.
Not to be outdone, Greek FinMin Euclid Tsakalotos spoke with Pierre Moscovici, Jeroen Dijsselbloem and his EU counterparts, Schauble, Sapen and Padoan.
According to Greek government sources, a “common conviction” emerged from the conversations over the need to conclude the first review of the Greek program (third bailout) this month.
Tsipras will continue this high-level phone contacts on Monday, with Joe Biden and Francois Hollande next in line.
