The ongoing refugee crisis has revved up the pressure on the Tsipras government in Athens given that the northern border crossing on the frontier with the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (fYRoM) was closed to all but a few would-be Mideast refugees and Third World migrants.
One short-term solution studied by the government is to create more temporary refugee centers – built by the defence ministry – while Athens on Tuesday raged against the Austrian government for convening a conference with western Balkan countries in Vienna on the refugee issue, but without Greek participation.
A demarche was the more visible protestation by the leftist Greek government, accompanied by charges of a “non friendly” act.
Meanwhile, a Commission spokeswoman responsible for migration issues on Monday warned directly of the prospect of a humanitarian crisis in Greece due to the refugee / migrant problem.
