Naftemporiki’s inaugural conference on the Greek retail sector and consumer goods market took place at a downtown Athens hotel on Thursday, with scores of representatives of major retail chains, the heads of affiliated chambers and market analysts taking the podium and speaking in successive panels.
On her part, Deputy Economy Minister Theodora Tzakri referred to efforts to achieve a “fiscal correction” by the current government as a necessary condition to boost commercial activity.
“Challenges for Greece’s retail trade during the coming period of economic development is of historic importance, and guarantees economic benefits (for the sector),” as she said.

Kefalogianni, who held the tourism portfolio in a previous ND government, also took a partisan aim at the current SYRIZA coalition government, saying it is attacking the retail sector by increasing direct and indirect taxes and by contributing to an unstable tax system.
