On her part, Deputy Economy Minister Theodora Tzakri referred to efforts to achieve a “fiscal correction” by the current government as a necessary condition to boost commercial activity.
“Challenges for Greece’s retail trade during the coming period of economic development is of historic importance, and guarantees economic benefits (for the sector),” as she said.
On her part, main opposition New Democracy deputy Olga Kefalogianni, a former minister, cited a need to immediately stop what she called a trend of “over taxation”.
Kefalogianni, who held the tourism portfolio in a previous ND government, also took a partisan aim at the current SYRIZA coalition government, saying it is attacking the retail sector by increasing direct and indirect taxes and by contributing to an unstable tax system.
