A strike affecting cruise ship services at the port of Piraeus has ended although delays remains with the loading and off-loading of cargo at the Piraeus and Thessaloniki Port Authorities due to an ongoing industrial action by a union representing dock workers and stevedores.

The strike entered its 27th day on Tuesday, with another 48-hour industrial action declared the same day.

Nevertheless, services for cruise ships and passengers at the port of Thessaloniki remained, as the union in the northern city continued their strike.

The unions want the government to retain the current “general personnel code” in an upcoming contract transferring control of the Piraeus Port Authority (OLP) to Chinese multinational Cosco, as well as written guarantees that allow current dock workers to find other positions elsewhere in the wider public sector.
