Palestinian prisons under strain

Palestinian prisons in the occupied West Bank are overwhelmed by an influx of inmates amid an ongoing security crackdown.The Palestinian prison system, degraded after years of conflict and neglect, strains to accommodate an influx of inmates after Prime Minister Salam Fayyad's security crackdown in the West Bank. Though billions of dollars have been pledged to help build the Palestinian Authority, none of the money has been earmarked for improvements in prisons or police forces. The result: some Palestinians arrested and accused of crimes are later released due to a lack of prison cells.
