Greece’s two petrochemical groups receive no imports of Iranian crude oil, and as such are not affected by the Trump administration’s decision not to renew exemptions from a US trade embargo against the country, reports in Athens stated on Monday.

According to sources, both Hellenic Petroleum (Hel.Pe) and the Motor Oil group have ceased importing Iranian crude for roughly a year now.

The exemptions for eight countries – including Greece – expire on May 2.

Sources at Hel.Pe, in fact, noted that the import of Iranian crude oil is essentially unfeasible given the prohibitions in effect on banking transactions between most western states and the Islamic republic.
