Greece-based Copelouzos group this week announced a new energy investment in the extreme northeast port of Alexandroupolis of between 300 and 350 million euros, and specifically the construction of a gas-fired 622MW power station.

According to a tentative timetable, construction is to begin in early 2020, as a license by the country's Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE), the sector's watchdog and semi-independent regulator, has already been issued and published.

The license was issued to Damco Energy, a subsidiary of Copelouzos group, for a combined cycle technology power station.

Construction is estimated to take 27 months from the issuance of an installation license, with operation set for the second quarter of 2022.
