Torrential rains have battered western Crete over the past two days, with two bridges in rural areas collapsing from floodwaters and at least one man, a 61-year-old stockbreeder, missing in the inclement weather. According to the Athens observatory / meteo.gr, 309 millimetres of daily rainfall was recorded up until Monday afternoon at the Askifos plateau in Chania prefecture.
