A convicted felon charged with separate attempted homicide charges was stabbed to death on Monday in the greater Athens area's biggest lockup, shortly after he had been transferred from a prison in south-central Greece.
According to media reports, the inmate, an Albanian national with long criminal history, is the same man charged with masterminding the murder of a prominent Athens attorney.
Michalis Zafiropoulos was shot to death in his office by two suspects, with two men later arrested in the case.
The victim's attempted homicide conviction stemmed from the assassination attempt on another attorney, who had a prominent role in the Energa and Hellas Power embezzlement cases.
Initial reports said the culprit was another Albanian man, and a former criminal associate of the victim
