Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades met with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, a government spokesman in Nicosia confirmed on Monday.
The unannounced and eyebrow-raising meeting was reportedly discussed at a national council meeting, where the Republic of Cyprus' political leaders confer over developments dealing with the island republic's division and continued occupation of one-third of its territory by the Turkish military.
A government spokesman offered little details over the meeting.
