Embattled Greek Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos took to the Internet this week to label the EU’s Growth and Stability Pact as a “permanent straightjacket”, while charging that the ECB, which he said is overly independent, is “fixated” on blunting inflation. He also bemoans what he indirectly refers to as a dogmatically driven Eurozone.

His article, posted on the non-profit openDemocracy organization’s website, comes only days after the UK-trained economist and professor provided written assurances to European creditors that his leftist government would not repeat another spending measure without prior consultation, while at the same time stating that it remains committed to implementing memorandum-mandated reforms.
