Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras met with European Commissioner Pierre Moscovici on the sidelines of a Party of European Socialists (PES) summit in Brussels on Thursday, with reports attributed to the Greek side claiming that the latter indirectly pointed to Berlin as being the sole opposition to the recent “holiday bonus” promised to pensioners by the Greek premier.

Moscovici reportedly expressed his view that this opposition, the same Greek sources claimed, violates an agreement – dating to May 2015 -- for the implementation of short-term debt relief measures for Greece.

The EFSF essentially froze the measure until institutional creditors can assess the 617-million-euro “yuletide” bonus announced by Tsipras for anyone receiving less than 850 euros in monthly social security benefits.
