An IMF spokesman on Thursday left open the possibility of the Fund rejoining the Greek bailout program as a lender, in response to a press question at a regular briefing in Washington, D.C.
“We are working with the Greek authorities and the European partners on a program that adds up and that the IMF can support. We have talked about that before here many times, the need for strong policies, the need for debt relief to ensure debt sustainability,” Gerry Rice told reporters, adding:
“The sooner there is agreement on both, the sooner we can bring a program to our Board. We do not have a hard deadline for this, but we hope the agreement can be reached very quickly.”
