A group of self-styled anti-state activists held a brief protest on Tuesday in the building housing the US consulate in the northern port city of Thessaloniki, where they tossed pamphlets, shouted slogans and tried to open a banner.

The group was identified with the anti-establishment group “Rouvikonas” (Rubicon), which in the past has conducted similar high-profile actions. As opposed to similar groups in Greece, however, members of this grouping usually allow themselves to be detained by authorities.

“Rouvikonas” had even promised last week to conduct make such a protest against this month’s visit by outgoing US President Barack Obama to Athens.

According to reports, up to 15 people reached the seventh floor of a building where the US consulate is hosted, with authorities saying each of the protesters reached the floor individually. Six people were later detained by police.
