A billion euros from the property tax alone flowed into state coffers in September 2016, boosting revenues and exceeding nine-month targets by 1.067 billion euros.
The figures released this week show that the otherwise very unpopular property tax – known as ENFIA – is chiefly responsible for the boon in state revenues.
An automatic deduction of the property tax from prospective tax rebates – for taxpayers owed a return – or an interest-free installment plan offered via bank credit cards were cited as two of the reasons for the better than expected result.
