US President Barack Obama will visit Greece, Germany and Peru next month in what is expected to be his last foreign visits of his presidency.
The White House officially announced the trip to Athens on Nov. 15 and Nov 16, with Greek reforms and the migration crisis on the agenda of talks for Obama, who will essentially be a “lame duck” president after the US election on Oct. 9.
The trip to Greece will be the first by a US president since Bill Clinton paid a one-day visit in 1999.
"In the birthplace of democracy, the president will also reaffirm the resilience of democratic values, which have done so much to deliver peace and prosperity to Europe and the wider world," was an Obama statement circulated by the White House.
Both the Greek president's office as well as the prime minister's office later issued an official press release confirming the visit. As such Obama is official set to meet with both Greek leaders.
