Greece’s central government posted a primary budget surplus of 5.454 billion euros in the first nine months of 2016, exceeding a target by 3.5 billion euros, on the back of higher revenues and lower spending, the finance ministry announced on Friday.

The budget surplus excludes figures by social security funds and local governments.

The goal, excluding debt-servicing cost, was 1.9 billion euros for the same period.

Revenues reached 35.2 billion euros, 1.5 billion euros higher than the target, whereas spending stood reached 34.5 billion euros, 2.5 billion euros below target.
