Main opposition New Democracy (ND) leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Tuesday stepped up his attack against the embattled leftist Greek government and again called for snap elections in the crisis-plagued country.
Bolstered by a series of recent opinion polls results, including one published in a pro-government daily, showing his party comfortably ahead of ruling SYRIZA, Mitsotakis said elections were the only way for “Greece to get rid of the ideologue opportunists what are now governing us.”
Speaking at his party’s political committee, the former minister said the current government is creating a climate of divisiveness in the country and “weaving” its own vested interests while attempting to control and manipulate the broadcast sector.
He also termed the situation in Greece’s “real economy” as tragic, with an extra 2.5 billion euros in taxes tacked on to the previous tax hikes.
