Main opposition New Democracy is apparently increasing its lead over ruling SYRIZA party, at least in terms of opinion poll results, with the latest survey showing the former ahead by 12.5 percentage points.
The opinion poll, commissioned by the Athens broadcaster Skai and conducted by the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki, shows center-right and pro-reform ND with 28.5 percent of respondents’ preferences. Leftist SYRIZA follows with 16 percent. The last poll by the same institution showed the figures at 27.5 and 17.5 percent, respectively.
Three parties follow, with percentages mostly mirroring a bevy of recent opinion polls: Golden Dawn (Chryssi Avgi) 7.5 percent; the Communist Party 5.5 percent and the socialist PASOK-led grouping 4.5 percent.
All other parties cited in the opinion poll are given support lower than 3 percent, which is the threshold for entering Parliament.
Some 20.5 percent of respondents did not answer or replied “no answer” when queried.
Asked who they believe will win the next election, whenever it is held, 62 percent of respondents said ND; 13 percent said SYRIZA.
