Greek law enforcement, in cooperation with the Bank of Greece, on Monday announced several arrests of suspects charged with using POS terminals to bypass still imposed capital controls in the country.
In a coordinated raid, authorities seized 164 terminals at various locations, which were allegedly connected with a firm headquartered in Bulgaria, but registered in Luxembourg, whereas transactions were cleared through Malta.
The finance ministry announced the arrest of 23 suspects. Additionally, a list with the names of nearly 2,000 customers who had procured the Bulgaria-linked e-transactions terminals was confiscated.
Capital controls are still imposed in the Eurozone member-state, although loosened recently.
