Two wanted fugitives well-known for their involvement in so-called anti-state actions, including indictments for armed robbery, were arrested on Thursday afternoon in Sparta, in extreme southern Greece.

Kostas Sakkas disappeared in February 2014 after being conditionally released in July 2013 due to a failure by prosecutors to try him within 18 months. He is charged with involvement in a local urban terrorism group known for attacks on “establishment targets”. He had been remanded in custody for 31 months without being tried and was only released following a decision by a council of appellate judges.

Marios Seisidis is charged with participation in several armed robberies perpetrated by a gang dubbed the “robbers in black”, which also featured an anti-state, urban terrorism narrative.

He has been a fugitive for nine years and has a bounty for his arrest reaching 600,000 euros.
