State expenditures between the January-June 2016 period reached 23.996 billion euros, dropping by 3.350 billion euros beyond the goal of 27.346 billion euros.
Expenditures in the general budget reached 22.694 billion euros, down 2.467 billion from the fiscal target, a development particularly due to a reduction in primary spending by 2.1 billion euros.
Conversely, regular budget spending appeared increased, in relation to the corresponding period of 2015, by 606 billion euros.
An additional outlay of 364 million euros went to cover arrears owed by state hospitals, with 119 million euros funneled towards what the leftist government terms the “humanitarian crisis”; 176 million euros went towards farm sector subsidies and 15 million in extraordinary defense spending.
