Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on Friday again called on the Greek government to hand over eight Turkish military cadres that have asked for political asylum in the country after Friday’s failed coup in Turkey.

The Turkish FM also claimed that the eight were involved in the putsch to sack the AKP government and to toppled Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan.

According to a Reuters dispatch from Ankara, Cavusoglu also called on the United States to extradite Turkish Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen back to Turkey to face charges of masterminding the coup attempt.

Nevertheless, the process for deciding political asylum in Greece is a domain reserved for the independent judiciary, and not the product of a government decision.
