IMF chief Christine Lagarde on Thursday openly disputed the much-vaunted “road map” for Greek debt relief, which was decided at a Eurogroup meeting late last month.
Lagarde’s qualms, in fact, came during a joint press release in Brussels where Eurogroup chair and Dutch Finance Minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem was also present.
In response to a press question, she initially replied “which debt relief agreement are you talking about?”, only to add that it was “difficult” to comment on an agreement to which the IMF was not a signatory. In response, Dijsselbloem, sitting near Lagarde, said IMF representatives were present in all related talks last months.
