A rally was underway in central Athens on Wednesday in demand that the government step down, a mobilization mostly organized through social media, especially through the hashtag #paretithite.
The rally, in itself, generated a furor of back-and-forth recriminations between the leftist government and the opposition, especially main opposition New Democracy (ND). The former accused the opposition of essentially organizing the protest, while the latter charged that the Tsipras government is sliding into authoritarianism.
At present, organizers of the event were using loud speakers and amplifiers to play past campaign promises by current PM Alexis Tsipras, promises which the organizers claimed were never fulfilled.
