A subsidiary of Greek natgas supplier DE.PA along with Italy’s Edison on Thursday signed a preliminary agreement with Houston-based Noble Energy for the construction of an undersea pipeline connecting a handful of east Mediterranean deposits with mainland Greece, via the island of Crete.
Noble is a partner in several exploitation concessions in the maritime area, between Cyprus and Israel.
The agreement for the pipeline, called “East – Med”, was signed by DE.PA subsidiary Poseidon, and foresees support for the finalization of actions ahead of the formulation of a necessary implementation study, as well as the viability of the entire endeavor.
According to state-run DE.PA, the proposed pipeline is a Europe-wide project and is backed by the EU through the program Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
