Cruise ship vacationers visiting the ancient Olympia archaeological site in the northwest Peloponnese will be able to reach the area via a special tourist train running from the port of Katakolo to Olympia this summer season.
The local municipality of Pyrgos gave its approval for the route, which will be serviced by a private company using its own rolling stock. The route will begin in Katakolo and travel through stations of Sykia, Aghios Andreas and the Mercouri estate.
A similar route connecting Katakolo to ancient Olympia is operated by the state operator OSE and caters to thousands of tourists over the summer months.
Katakolo is a prime port of call for cruise ships plying the Ionia Sea waters in the summer.
