Commission forecasts 0.3% drop in Greek GDP for 2016; 2.7% hike for 2017

The European Commission forecasts a continued recession in Greece for 2016, estimating that GDP in the country will fall by 0.3 percent, instead of a previous prediction of -0.7 percent.

The EU executive gives Greece the only negative forecast for 2016 amongst Eurozone members.

On an upbeat note, the Commission forecast Greek GDP growth at 2.7 percent for 2017.  

In its report on EU member-states’ economies, the Commission predicts a Greek unemployment rate of 24.7 percent in 2016, a marginal 0.2-percent decrease from 2015.
