A positive economic figure emerged this week from the Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport of Athens (AIA), which reported that exported cargo from Greece’s largest air transport hub to date in 2016 has exceeded imported cargo.
AIA said 43,000 tons of cargo has been flown out of the airport since Jan. 1, with January and February 2016 posting increases of 7 and 10 percent, respectively, from the corresponding months of 2015.
Imports were also up, with the hike attributed to an increase in imported items to deal with the ongoing Mideast refugee crisis plaguing the country.
According to AIA, 80.47K tons of cargo was shipped to and from the airport in 2015, up 4.1 percent from the same figure of 2014.
