Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Thursday spoke by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin, with talks focusing on the ongoing refugee crisis plaguing Europe, and in particular Greece, as well as the situation in war-ravaged Syria.
A majority of the tens of thousands of legitimate refugees landing on various Greek islands after disembarking from Turkey over the past year and a half are identified as Syrians.
Bilateral economic and energy relations were also discussed, according to a press release issued by Tsipras’ office.
