The Greek government on Monday announced that a tender for the issuance of broadcast television licenses will commence in March.
Relevant infrastructure and networks minister Christos Spirtzis made the statement in comments to a local Athens radio station.
He said composition of conditions for the tender is in its final stages, with licenses to be auctioned off one-by-one and with the process expected to be concluded in two months after begun.
Spirtzis said a tender for four national television licenses will be followed by a procedure to issue licenses for thematic stations, followed by another tender for regional television licenses.
The political opposition and current television station management have vociferously criticized the process envisioned and the number of prospective licenses to be issued, arguing for more.
