Στην αγορά της εταιρείας τεχνητής νοημοσύνης DeepMind προβαίνει η Google, σύμφωνα με δημοσιεύματα.
Όπως αναφέρεται στο Τhe Information, ο κολοσσός του χώρου της τεχνολογίας έχει συμφωνήσει να δημιουργήσει επίσης ένα «συμβούλιο ηθικής» το οποίο θα διασφαλίζει ότι δεν θα γίνεται κατάχρηση της τεχνολογίας τεχνητής νοημοσύνης. Όσον αφορά στο ποσό που θα πληρώσει η Google, εκτιμάται ότι ξεπερνά τα 400 (σύμφωνα με δημοσίευμα του Re/code) ή τα 500 εκατ. (κατά το TheInformation) δολάρια. Αξίζει να σημειωθεί ότι, όπως αναφέρεται, για την απόκτηση της συγκεκριμένης εταιρείας είχε ενδιαφερθεί πέρυσι και το Facebook, ωστόσο δεν υπήρξε συμφωνία.
Η DeepMind, η οποία χαρακτηρίζεται από πολλά δημοσιεύματα ως «μυστικοπαθής», συνδυάζει (όπως αναφέρει η ίδια στην ιστοσελίδα της) τις καλύτερες τεχνικές από τους χώρους του machine learning και της νευροεπιστήμης συστημάτων για να αναπτύξει αλγορίθμους εκμάθησης γενικής χρήσης.
Το συμβούλιο – για το οποίο η εταιρεία άσκησε πιέσεις – θα διαμορφώσει ένα πλαίσιο κανόνων για το πότε θα μπορεί και πότε όχι η Google να χρησιμοποιεί την τεχνολογία.
Και τα δύο δημοσιεύματα κάνουν λόγο για επιβεβαίωση της συμφωνίας από εκπρόσωπο της Google. Σύμφωνα με το Re/code, με το θέμα ασχολήθηκε ο διευθύνων σύμβουλος της εταιρείας, Λάρι Πέιτζ.
Την DeepMind ίδρυσε το 2012 ο βρετανός νευροεπιστήμονας, σκακιστής και σχεδιαστής ηλεκτρονικών παιχνιδιών Ντέμης Χασάμπης, μαζί με τους Σέιν Λεγκ και Μουσταφά Σουλεϊμάν. Μεταξύ των συμβούλων και επενδυτών της εταιρείας είναι και ο Γιααν Ταλίν, developer του Kazaa και του Skype. Η εταιρεία εδρεύει στο Λονδίνο. Όπως αναφέρεται στο δημοσίευμα του Re/code, πρόκειται για έναν ισχυρό «παίκτη» στον χώρο της τεχνητής νοημοσύνης, που επεκτείνεται ταχέως. Σύμφωνα με πηγή την οποία επικαλείται η ιστοσελίδα, διαθέτει ομάδα τουλάχιστον 50 ανθρώπων, και έχει εξασφαλίσει χρηματοδότηση ύψους 50 εκατ. δολαρίων.
Yπενθυμίζεται ότι η Google έχει προβεί σε μία σειρά αγορών εταιρειών τον τελευταίο καιρό, μεταξύ των οποίων και η γνωστή εταιρεία στον χώρο της ρομποτικής, Boston Dynamics, καθώς και η εταιρεία «έξυπνων» συσκευών για το σπίτι, Nest Labs.
Συνεργασία με την Samsung στις ευρεσιτεχνίες
Συμφωνία για «cross-licensing» ευρεσιτεχνιών ανακοίνωσαν η Google και η Samsung την Κυριακή. Η εν λόγω συμφωνία καλύπτει πατέντες που κατέχονται από τις εταιρείες ήδη, καθώς και άλλες οι οποίες θα κατοχυρωθούν μέσα στα επόμενα δέκα χρόνια. Δεν έχουν γίνει γνωστές οικονομικές λεπτομέρειες για τη συμφωνία.
Σε σχετική ανακοίνωση αναφέρεται ότι η συμφωνία θα οδηγήσει σε βαθύτερη συνεργασία πάνω στην έρευνα και ανάπτυξη, σε σημερινά και μελλοντικά προγράμματα. Σύμφωνα με την Samsung, πρόκειται για μία πολύ σημαντική για τη βιομηχανία τεχνολογίας συμφωνία, η οποία μειώνει το ενδεχόμενο δικαστικής αντιπαράθεσής της με την Google για ζητήματα ευρεσιτεχνιών.
Οι δύο εταιρείες συνεργάζονται ήδη στενά, καθώς τα smartphones της Samsung χρησιμοποιούν το λειτουργικό της Google, Android.
Σημειώνεται ότι σε εξέλιξη βρίσκεται εδώ και καιρό ένας «πόλεμος» ευρεσιτεχνιών στον κόσμο των smartphones και των φορητών συσκευών εν γένει, με εταιρείες να ανταλλάσσουν μηνύσεις και να επιδιώκουν τη συγκέντρωση όσο το δυνατόν περισσότερων ευρεσιτεχνιών και τον προσεταιρισμό συμμάχων με αντίστοιχες συμφωνίες.
