The 2022 tourism season in Greece will officially launch earlier than any recent year, that is in March 2022, said Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias in an interview with Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA) on Saturday.
To that end, the minister said that he has already instructed Greek hoteliers, as well as municipal and regional authorities that the country must be prepared "well in advance" of said start of the new season. He added that international markets have signaled some very positive feedback for next year's tourism season in Greece.
Kikilias also noted that his ministry is gearing up for the World Travel Market (WTM) fair in London, to be held on November 1-3, where "good agreements will come for Greece."
The minister stressed that emphasis will be given to specific types of so-called 'niche tourism', both at WTM and at international tourism markets for 2022, these being city breaks and high-end tourism.
Kikilias also pointed out that another target of the ministry is to attract tourists to lesser-known destinations in Greece; these may include traditional small hostels at remote locations, Byzantine monasteries and medieval castles.
