Confirmed coronavirus-related deaths in Greece reached 26 on Friday, with the average age of the victims listed at 73 years old, and with the gender breakdown being 21 males and five females.
Confirmed cases of Covid-19 infection reached 892, according to Prof. Sotiris Tsiodras, who heads the Greek government's crisis management for the pandemic.
Additionally, 57 cases were described as serious, with 54 people being treated in ICUs - with the majority again being elderly men with underlying health conditions.
Conversely, 42 people initially hospitalized with the coronavirus have recuperated and ended treatment.
Asked about the death of a 42-year-old German lecturer who died on Crete after arriving at the University of Crete for a series of seminars, Prof. Tsiodras said a thrombosis gravely aggravated his coronavirus infection.
In one of the most high-profile cases of severe Covid-19 infection so far in the east Mediterranean country, former health minister Dimitris Kremastinos, a noted cardiologist and current MP with the KINAL party, is being treated in an Athens-area hospital's ICU.
Kremastinos is a month shy of turning 78.
