A mechanical malfunction has left a UK-flagged freighter without propulsion north of the Cyclades island of Andros on Thursday evening.

The vessel was identified as the "Ocean Promise", with a crew of 24.

No assistance has yet been requested, although a Greek coast guard vessel was nearby.

The freighter is loaded with containers, it had departed Spain headed for Turkey. Rough seas were reported in the specific sea region, with winds recorded at 8 to 9 on the Beaufort scale.
