A powerful explosion damaged the building housing the Skai broadcaster's facility in coastal southern Athens in the early morning hours of Monday, with authorities pointing to a terrorist attack.

No injuries were reported, but damages were extensive at the site, near the port city of Piraeus.

Skai's television and radio stations were operating as normal on Monday morning, focusing their newscasts on the attack. The building is also the headquarters of the Kathimerini newspaper.

Police said a bomb comprised of several kilos of explosive material was used.

Two warning phone calls were made some 45 minutes before the blast at 2:36 a.m. (00.26 GMT).

Skai is considered as among the most outspoken media critics in Greece of the poll-trailing coalition government and embattled leftist PM Alexis Tsipras. In fact, ruling SYRIZA party has called on its MPs and cadres to boycott Skai for several months now.

Main opposition New Democracy (ND) leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis later arrived at the Skai offices just after 09.15 a.m., after inspections by the relevant public order and alternate public order ministers.
