The value of the retail smartphone sector in Greece reached 502.3 million euros in 2017, down 3 percent from 2016, when it reached 518.6 million euros.
According to available data so far, some 2.1 million smartphones were sold in Greece last year, which falls short of the 2.24 million units sold in 2016. The latter's numbers were unchanged from 2015, meaning that the number of units sold in 2017 fell by 6 percent, compared with 2016.
Samsung and Huawei were number one and two, respectively, in the 11-million-strong Greek market, with the Korean multinational holding a 32.5-percent share, followed by the high-flying Chinese manufacturer, who reached a 17.3-percent market share, up from 13 percent in 2016.
A surprise third-place showing was posted by an ambitious local high-tech firm, MLS, which increased its market share to 9 percent, up from 6.3 percent in 2016.
Fourth-place went to pricey Apple, which fell to 7.4 percent from 8.3 percent the previous year, while the "top 5" was closed out with Xiaomi, a "new player" in the Greek market, at a 6.2 percent.
