Thirty people, mostly young men, were arrested by police overnight in the wake of a melee that broke out on a stretch of coastal highway south of Athens known for street racing.
According to authorities, roughly 400 people had gathered just before the coastal resort of Varkiza following an "invitation" via social media to watch the "races".
A riot squad unit was dispatched to the scene, with sporadic violence subsequently breaking out.
