A significant increase in the number of registered unemployed people in Greece was recorded in October 2016, according to the Manpower Employment Organization, the state-run agency tasked with recording and paying out jobless benefits.
OAED said newly registered unemployed people increased by 43,645 last month over the previous month, with the total – a still highly worrying figure – at nearly 990,000. The latter figure includes people not actively seeking employment after registering as unemployed.
The number of registered unemployed in October 2016 is also higher, by 22,756 people, from the relevant figure in the same month of 2015.
The largest portion of unemployed in the country is in the 30 to 44 age group.
