Seven violations of national airspace were reported on Wednesday in the central and northeast Aegean region, with Greek air force planes and military radars identifying at least 11 Turkish warplanes.
Additionally, a close engagement was reported on at least one occasion.
Greek defense ministry sources said a Turkish formation of 10 planes infringed Athens FIR regulations, while one plane was flying out of formation. Two of the warplanes were armed.
The latest incident over the Aegean, on a day when the US president was flying out of Athens’ international airport, scrambled Greek fighter jets, which were sent to intercept the violating planes based on international rules.
