Results of the latest opinion poll in Greece mirrors the outcome of a series of recent polls in the country, with main opposition New Democracy enjoying a 15-percentage-point lead over ruling SYRIZA party.

The opinion poll was conducted by Thessaloniki’s University of Macedonia political studies department, and commissioned by the Athens television station Skai TV.

Thirty percent of respondents said they favor center-right ND, to 15 percent for leftist SYRIZA. In the previous poll by the same university department, ND was given 28.5 percent and SYRIZA 16 percent.

Another five parties were given above 3 percent in terms of respondents’ preferences: Golden Dawn (7 percent); the Communist Party (5.5); a grouping led by socialist PASOK (4.5); the Union of Centrists (3 percent) and an out-of-Parliament left-wing party founded by former Parliament president Zoe Konstantopoulou, also at 3 percent.

Asked which party they believe will win the next general election whenever it is held and regardless of their political preferences, 51.5 percent of respondents said ND; 12.5 percent said SYRIZA.
