Main opposition New Democracy (ND) party on Monday tabled an amendment in Parliament foreseeing a temporary suspension, until the end of 2017, in primary residence foreclosures for outstanding arrears to the state.

Conditions listed in the draft amendment include the provision that the property serve as a household's primary residence; income criteria, and a stipulation that the property's objective tax value, set by the tax bureau, not exceed 180,000 euros for single owners, with 40K added to married couples and another 20K for each minor child, up to three offspring.

The amendment, if passed, does not offer protection from mortgage holders or other third parties.
