Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Çavuşoğlu was on Crete on Sunday, where he is meeting with his Greek counterpart Nikos Kotzias.
In a press release on Saturday, the Greek foreign ministry emphasized that Kotzias has extended an invitation to Çavuşoğlu “months ago” to visit Crete, and that the meeting would be “unofficial”.
The ministry also noted that the Turkish FM’s visit to Crete would be his first arrival to an EU country after the failed coup attempt in Turkey on July 15.
Press reports claimed that the Turkish side would again press for the extradition of eight Turkish military officers that sought asylum in Greece after the coup.
Çavuşoğlu is reportedly staying at the well-known Elounda resort on the large island.
