The first order for a 48-hour suspension of operation due to tax violations was slapped against a well-known tavern-restaurant in the popular Perea district of east Thessaloniki on Saturday, part of a very recent crackdown promised by the finance ministry to curb tax evasion amid the ongoing height of the tourism season.
According to reports, inspectors from the relevant general secretariat of public revenues on Saturday ascertained that out of 30 occupied tables at the establishment, none had been issued a legal receipt.
The decision means that the business will remained closed for two days, with special ribbon taped outside its doors and with police ordered to regularly patrol the site.
