Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras commented via Twitter, from faraway China no less, on the one-year anniversary Tuesday of a 2015 snap referendum he announced to ask voters to whether they approved, or not, of creditors’ memorandum offer at the time.
The result was a resounding “No” by Greek voters on July 5, while a third memorandum was nevertheless signed the followed month.
“A year later we are continuing with our head held high,” was the Tweet posted on Tsipras' account.
His statement continues: “The NO of our people was a supreme act of defiance to the Euro-league of austerity and the (Greek) establishment that planned the country’s drowning in order to return.”
The Greek premier is currently on an official visit to China.
