A draft bill containing the concession contract transferring the Piraeus Port Authority (OLP) to Chinese shipping giant Cosco was passed by a large majority of MPs in Parliament on Thursday evening, a day after a last-minute “hiccup” emerged on the path towards concluding the landmark privatization.

Deputies from all parties, except the Communist Party (KKE) and the far-right Golden Dawn (Chryssi Avgi), voted to ratify the bill, namely, 223 in favor and 25 against -- out of 248 MPs present in the chamber.

The vote approved the sale of a majority stake of OLP shares to Cosco and the transfer of the port authority’s management.
