The finance ministry on Thursday published the dates when special tax duties will go into effect for landline phone bills and hotel overnight stays, with the former being implemented on Jan. 1, 2017 and more expensive lodgings as of 2018.
The indirect tax hikes are part of a 5.4-billion-euro austerity package passed by the leftist Greek government a couple of months ago, part of efforts to meet memorandum-mandated fiscal targets through 2018.
Phone bills will become more expensive by 5 percent, while hotels will be forced to impose a special fee on overnight stays ranging from 50 cents to four euros per room, depending on the category of the hotel.
