An amendment prohibiting the participation of lawmakers in off-shore companies, including holding shares in such entities, will be tabled in Parliament on Wednesday, the government spokeswoman announced on Tuesday.
The abrupt announcement came after a firestorm of criticism by the opposition over the past few days.
A specific article, 178, which was tucked away in a voluminous austerity package passed by a slim coalition government majority earlier in the month, relaxed a strict regime against the participation of elected officials in offshore entities.
