Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Athens on Friday afternoon to begin a two-day official visit to the country, his first in a decade, with the highlight being his official attendance at commemorative liturgy in the Russian-influenced monastery on Mount Athos.
Putin was greeted at the Athens International Airport by the Greek DM, Panos Kammenos. The Russian president’s flight was delayed by one and a half hour, with no official explanation provided.
He is due to hold meetings with Greek leadership on Friday, before traveling to the all-male semi-autonomous monastic community on Saturday. He will be accompanied by Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos.
